Order of Abbotsford recipients announced

The City of Abbotsford announced the recipients of the 2015 Order of Abbotsford.

Receiving the award are Trudy Beyak, a writer and editor of the Abby News for 20 years, UFV Associate Professor Satwinder Bains, a leader in the community on issues like diversity and activism for youth and women, and George Peary, a teacher, principal, and former mayor.

While Peary may likely be most well known for his role on mayor and city council, for much of his life his calling was in the education system, and he’s being recognized for forty years of work in that field.

Peary is back in a school once again as principal of the Dasmesh Punjabi School, and says he’s still enjoying the work.

“Because it’s the first time in my career that I’ve had a chance to deal with primary school children and they’re wonderful. So they make my day and I’m having fun every day coming here and working.”

The three will be recognized as part of the Canada Day celebrations.
