missionThe District of Mission is restricting overnight access to the forest road that leads up to the western side of Stave Lake because of the extreme fire hazard.

Manager of civic engagement Michael Boronowski says they’re trying to limit camping and irresponsible behaviour in undesignated areas.

“Areas like the flats when the water is drawn down, camping there, camping outside of the designated rec sites, that’s not allowed. We are locking the gates from 10 PM to 6 AM and doing sweeps.”

Boronowski says there is a chance the road could be blocked 24/7 if conditions worsen but that requires provincial permission.

He says the District will re-open full road access when the fire hazard conditions drop to moderate.
