Youth_Hockey_Players(Submitted by Kenny Mason and Joanne Abshire) If you’ve been to a minor hockey game you’ve likely seen some out of control parents, but the Vancouver Island Minor Hockey Association is trying to change that.

Some new rules are coming to stop abusive parents at the rink. Every single parent will have to sign a new code of conduct by October 31st.

Jim Humphrey with the association says at least one parent will also have to take an online course.

“That’s going to be an educational tool for parents. There’s a lot of things being ruled out towards parents to remind them that no longer is our game going to tolerate their abusive behaviour.”

He’s been involved with the game for over 50 years and has seen all kinds of inappropriate conduct.

“Touching other kids, it’s trying to break open doors to get at referees, it’s throwing things at referees, it’s verbally abusing referees.”

Humphrey says this is the one and only reminder for parents.
