There are more hiking spots around Chilliwack to choose from, thanks to the completion of maintanence and repairs to over 70kms over backcountry trails in the Chilliwack River Valley. A number of groups and first nations came together to complete the work over the past year, and on Wednesday the new info kiosk was unveiled. City councillor Sam Waddington says this is a big boost for tourism.

“I think the tipping point for me was that we were pulling trails out of our visitor guide because we weren’t confident that they were maintained well enough or that there was enough directional signage getting to them…that we could truly promote them and feel confident doing that.  Now we’re going to have to rewrite the tourism guide, and put a bunch of these trails back on there…now we’re open for business and we’re hoping that people from across the region will come out and enjoy them.”

The committee in charge of the rehabilitation project secured over $75,000 in funding to help make it happen.

Waddington says  the Ts’elxweyeqw Tribe played a big part in this project as well.
