Don't leave valuables in your vehicle

Every holiday season, the mall parking lots are packed, and that’s like Christmas for thieves.
Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian Macdonald says they don’t necessarily see more thefts this time of year, but there certainly are more opportunities for it.

“There’s no spike, that’s the good news.  The bad news is that thieves are looking for opportunities throughout the year and at any time.  It’s when you create those opportunities that you’re actually leaving yourself susceptible to that disappointment to returning to your vehicle and finding your valuables gone.”

He recommends removing all your gifts, your garage door opener and your insurance papers when you’re not in the vehicle. You should also remember to lock all your doors, even if you’re just running into the house or the coffee shop for a few moments.
