Starting January 19th, all 9-1-1 calls in the Fraser Valley will be directed to E-Comm, which is located in Vancouver.
Currently, most 9-1-1 calls in the region are fielded by the RCMP dispatch, based in Chilliwack. FVRD Chief Administration Officer Paul Gipps says the RCMP has provided “exceptional service”, but this decision comes down to dollars and cents….the new contract with E-Comm will come with a budget savings of approximately $316,000. Gipps says people shouldn’t notice a difference when calling 9-1-1. E-Comm currently handles 84% of the province’s call volume.  Abbotsford already uses E-Comm infrastructure, but does have their own dispatch centre.
