Trevor assemblesAn Abbotsford business is helping dispel myths regarding the capabilities of people with developmental disabilities in the workplace.

Some time ago, Communitas Supportive Care Society approached VSSL Outdoor Utility Tools about hiring Scott and Trevor to work the assembly line, and the pair have been thriving.

VSSL director of operations Nathan Bosch says he had to take some time to get to know how they best worked, but says he ended up with great employees.

“These guys have said to me, to my face, that they’ve never had a job like this, they love it here. It’s a small warehouse, we’ve got the tunes going, it’s really relaxed in here.”

Bosch says sometimes he has to mix up what jobs they do on the assembly line to keep their motivation up, but says with this kind of work you have to do that with pretty much anyone.
