Chris Stapleton became a country music star with hits like “You Should Probably Leave” and “Tennessee Whiskey,” but he’s actually known for his songwriting. Stapleton collaborated with Kelly Clarkson, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, and Adele.

When asked about giving up his songs, the rising star reacted appropriately. Anthony Mason of CBS News asked Stapleton if he had trouble handing his songs to other vocalists, and Stapleton explained that back in the day if people liked songs, there would be many versions of the same song.

“I like to hear other people do things that I wrote because they will interpret it differently than me. That’s what artistry is,” said Stapleton.
