Being prepared for an unexpected car emergency is SUPER important, especially during winter. Unpredictable weather can make it even worse.  Having these items available will help keep you safe.

What you should pack in your Emergency Car Kit:
• Food that won’t spoil, such as energy bars
• Water—plastic bottles that won’t break if the water freezes (replace them every six months)
• Blankets
• Extra clothing, socks, boots and winter gloves
• First aid kit with seatbelt cutter
• Small shovel, scraper, and snowbrush
• Flashlight (make sure you pack extra batteries)
• Whistle—in case you need to attract attention
• Roadmaps (the old school paper kind)
• Emergency flares or reflectors
• Jumper cables
• Sand or kitty litter (this will help provide traction should your wheels become stuck and are spinning)

In addition, consider having winter tires, these will provide better traction than all-season tires especially when it’s cold. Don’t forget the spare tire, ensure it’s good quality and good condition.
