Christmas isn’t really Christmas without the PERFECT Christmas tree. The one that is deep green, full and lush with a wonderful pine smell that gives us all the Christmas nostalgic feels. To help you find the perfect tree, we have gathered a few tips for you, if you are heading to your local tree farm or if you are planning on finding and cutting down your own tree.

Step 1: Measure

First measure your space where the Christmas tree will go, that way you know exactly how tall and wide of a tree you can purchase (The bigger the better, obviously!)

Step 2: Measure Your Stand

You don’t want to go all the way down to a lot, pick out a tree… only to find out the tree doesn’t fit in your stand, so make sure you have the right measurements for your stand.

Step 3: Picking the best Christmas Tree

  • Bounce the tree: Once you find a tree that has the right measurements, bounce the tree up and down if the exterior needles fall off that you likely have a bad tree (interior needles falling is normal).
  • Test the Branches: Grab the branch with your thump and forefinger and gently pull toward yourself. If you end up holding lots of needles the tree is past, it’s prime.
  • Crush Needles: Crush a handful of needles in your palm, and if it does not smell good enough, than don’t buy the tree.

Step 4: Cutting

Once you have picked out the BEST tree in the lot, you will want to cut off the end of the trunk with a pruning saw to open the tree veins so they can receive the right amount of water. (Most tree lots provide this, so ask if they don’t.)

Step 4: Wrapping

Before you buy your tree, ask the lot attended to put the tree through the shaker to shake off any dead needles and then wrap it gently for the ride home.

Once you have done all of these steps you can bring your tree home, set it in it’s stand, add clean water to the bottom and start to safely decorate!

Happy Tree Hunting!
