All of us have faked a smile here and there and thought nothing of it, but did you know it could be bad for your mental health?!

That’s right!  A study done by the Academy of Management Journal found that the more you fake smile the less happy you actually are. The Academy of Management Journal tested this theory on bus drivers who often have to fake smile throughout their day and found that they had mood swings and more persistent negative thoughts. They also became withdrawn from the tasks they had to do. Those who smiled genuine smiles with eye muscle movement were more satisfied with their lives, married earlier and reported having better relationships. So, the next time you are tempted to fake smile, think about how it could effect your mood first.
