And were off again! The plan for today on the Gold Rush Back Road from Barkerville to likely is, amazing mountain peaks, Crystal blue lakes and Ghost towns! But first we had to head back down the road to Barkerville for Breakfast at Wake up Jake’s. A round of flapjacks later and we were ready to go but our wee one still doesn’t doesn’t seam to be any happier after a great nights sleep at Hubs Motel….snot bubbles aside we were starting to keep an eye on her. But nothing was going to hold us back from a great adventure…. so off we were….well after our eldest tried failed to convince the candy lady to open early.

Now off to the Gold Rush Back Road and man it didn’t fail to deliver! The road was smooth as the highway coming in …and the a quaint river snaked back in fort next to the road…. Not that my wife saw much as she was on duty feeding the kids snacks constantly. Well after a little while we made our first stop at Whiskey flats rec site. A stunning crystal clear lake nestled at the foot of the Palmer Range Mountains. If there were fish in the lake I would have seen them…it was that clear. Then on to our next stop at the Cariboo River Provincial park. Not only is the scene of the river running under the bridge epic but the butterfly’s were insane! Thousands of them and in every colour! But the Road becond us on where we came across our first Ghost town…an abandon resort next to comet creak falls. A little exploring through the buildings until our nerve gave and off we were again to our last stop at Ghost Lake Falls! Wow! this is actually two amazing falls right out of the Reverant! But after an extra long break and the little won clearly showing sings of being sick we hit the road and enjoyed the towering peaks of the Cariboo mountains all the way into likely as the kids slept.

After a quick breather at the Likely lodge and a light dusting off of the luggage we we checked out the Cedar City museum to learn about the history of Likely from the gold rush to now….well I did…the kids spotted a playground in the neighboring Cedar Point Campground. After the kids and dad had there fill of fun we headed to our final destination. The Quesnel Forks Ghost Town. This was only a 10 min drive out of town and man was it cool! A whole community of abandoned Gold Rush buildings, THAT YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO EXPLORE, and trails at the foot of the Quesnel + Cariboo River. Oh and did I mention that it has a Free Provincial Campsite in it! How cool is that! We are totally going to have to come back here with our trailer. Well that’s it were done! We finished the night with Claudine’s stellar Samosa soup back at the Likely Lodge and are ready for bed.
Thank you Likely BC, the Likely Lodge, Cedar City Museum and of course O’Connor RV for another great day! Don’t Forget to enter the code HISTORIC for your chance to take your family on the same Road Trip Adventure as us.
