ORNAnother successful season of Operation Red Nose has come to a close. Dennis Sherwin with the Sardis Kiwanis Club says in Chilliwack, volunteers gave 577 rides over 9 nights of service.

“We managed to get 1165 people home safely along with their vehicles.  We did 396 volunteer nights, and we did 106 teams, travelling a total of over 14,000 kms.”

He says those volunteers will be recognized at a volunteer appreciation evening at the Coast Hotel Wednesday night.  He’s not sure of the total yet, but they did get somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000 in donations, which will go to local kids’ initiatives like their Super Reader program.

In Abbotsford-Mission, PacificSport Fraser Valley ran the program again this season, and they too had a successful campaign.  Joshua Shopland with PacificSport says they raised $12,843 in donations, with 324 volunteers giving 562 safe rides home.
