canucks1(By Rich Brown) Anze Kopitar buried a pass from Jeff Carter in overtime to lift the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Jacob Markstrom was terrific in goal for Vancouver, making 38 saves in the defeat.

The Canucks got on the board first, as their powerplay converted on its first attempt of the night. Henrik Sedin sent a pass over to Daniel Sedin as he came down the right side, and his quick shot found its way through Jonathan Quick to make it 1-0. The goal gave Daniel 17 points over his past 11 games.

After a goalless second period, Los Angeles pulled even on a powerplay of its own in the third. Drew Doughty stepped into a slapshot and it beat Markstrom through the screen.

Vancouver has Markstrom to thank for getting to overtime. The Canucks were outshot 15-1 in the third period and 37-16 through regulation. The Canucks’ tender had no shot at stopping the winner though. Alex Edler sent a horrible cross-ice pass in the direction of Radim Vrbata, but it was easily picked up by Carter and he sent a pass over to Kopitar, who fired it into the open net.

The Canucks went 1-1-2 on their road trip and have a record of 9-9-8 on the season. Vancouver will open a four-game homestand on Thursday against the Dallas Stars.
