The demand may not be up substantially, but the supply at the Abbotsford Food Bank has reached crisis levels.
Manager Dave Murray says they have 4,000 mouths to feed every month, and he only has 10 days worth of food left. He says one reason for the decreased donations might be because food is so expensive, which is why cash might be the best way to help them.

“If you give us money, we are able to buy at least 2 for 1 right now.  The stores are rallying around us as well, and some have offered us their food at-cost, so when I go to buy, $20,000 is in some cases $40,000 worth of food in retail.”

If you’d prefer to donate food, they always need items like rice, canned veggies, soup, and peanut butter. There are donation bins set up at the Food Bank on Essendene, as well as Superstore, Safeway and Save-On.
