(NEWS 1130) We’re hearing the Dewdney Slough Bridge connecting Mission and Hope is collapsing.

No one was on the bridge when the structural issues began this morning.

“It seems like it’s collapsed; not totally so that it’s broken, but it’s dipped,” describes Stephanie Lock, who works at the nearby Dewdney Pub. “There’s a big crack across the road. It’s stressed out.”

She says officials arrived shortly after she did. “We were told that it could be possibly up to a month before they would re-open it.”

“The residents on the other side of the bridge are pretty stressed because they cannot get home without taking an alternate route, which is at least an hour around.”

Drivers are being detoured to Highway 1.
