Abbotsford: Ed Fast (Conservative)

The Honourable Ed Fast was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006, and was re–]elected in 2008
and 2011. He had previously served for two terms as an Abbotsford School Trustee and for three terms
as a member of Abbotsford City Council.
A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Ed practiced corporate and commercial law for 24
years.
On May 18, 2011, Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Ed to his cabinet to serve as Minister of
International Trade. He is responsible for the Government of Canadafs Global Markets Action Plan,
which is implementing the most ambitious trade plan in Canada’s history and is deepening Canadafs
trade and investment relationships with large, dynamic and fast-growing economies around the world.
Since 2006, Canada has concluded trade agreements with 39 different countries, bring to 44 the number
of partners with which our country has preferred trade relationships. Ed’s top trade priorities include
bringing into force Canada’s free trade agreements with the European Union and Ukraine and a
modernized agreement with Israel, and concluding trade negotiations with India and the twelve
members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Prior to his appointment to cabinet, Ed chaired the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice &
Human Rights. In 2011, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel for British Columbia, and more recently was
awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to his community and country.
As the Member of Parliament for Abbotsford, Ed has delivered unprecedented federal support to his
city. Projects like the McCallum and Clearbrook Rd. interchanges, Abbotsford Airport expansion, Mill
Lake spray park, border crossing improvements and record investments in youth crime prevention
reflect Ed’s ongoing work to make sure that Abbotsford’s social and transportation needs are not
neglected.
Ed and his wife, Annette, have lived in Abbotsford, British Columbia, for over 33 years. They have four
daughters, two sons-in-law and four grandsons.
