harrison lakeThere have already been 3 drowning deaths on the Harrison Lake this summer, and we might be dealing with a 4th.
Search and Rescue were called to Long Island yesterday…one person was pulled from the water and will live, while the search for a 2nd person was suspended around 9:30 last night, and RCMP will discuss the next steps this morning.
After 2 men drowned on the lake earlier this summer, their families and friends posted a PSA on YouTube warning about the dangers of the lake and asking for increased signage. Harrison Mayor Leo Facio says that’s something they’re willing to look at.

“As far as signage is concerned, we’re open to discussion with all the parties concerned when we get all the relative information, if that’s what they want to do.”

However, he says they haven’t been contacted by the families, nor to they know exactly why these people drowned…whether it was the current, the cold water, or something else.  He also says, without trying to sound cold, it’s a huge body of water…

“The trouble is, we’re talking about a 38 mile long lake.  Besides us, there are islands where people live that have their own boat launches.  There’s a provincial park that has its own boat launch as well….so how do you cover such a vast area with precaution?”

He says sometimes it just comes down to using common sense on the lake.
