Outline for upgrades

A couple of major infrastructure upgrades are coming to the Vedder river area in Chilliwack.

The City of Chilliwack, federal, and provincial governments are each contributing over $4 million towards replacing the Vedder bridge.

The new bridge will be a two lane steel plate girder bridge and will also include multi-use pathways for cyclists and pedestrians.

The funding will also provide a roundabout at the junction of Vedder road and Chilliwack Lake road to improve traffic flow.

“We are proud to invest in projects like these two in Chilliwack.” Says Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl, “They will benefit our community by improving much needed local infrastructure. Our Government’s commitment to municipalities, big and small, has never been stronger. Through the New Building Canada Plan’s Small Communities Fund, we are investing in priority infrastructure projects that have a positive and lasting impact on the quality of life of British Columbia’s residents while helping create jobs and economic growth.”

In addition, each level of government is pitching in just over $63,000 to upgrade the Parkview Water System in Cultus Lake.

Chilliwack-Hope MLA Laurie Throness says this is great news for the region.

“Having reliable access to good clean drinking water is crucial to the residents of Cultus Lake using the Parkview Water System. As well, this upgrade will increase fire protection capability and provide for future increases in the population. ”

The new bridge is estimated to be complete in fall of 2018.
