dreyerEtienne Dreyer became the youngest ever science grad at the University of the Fraser Valley last week, getting his bachelors degree at the age of 19.

Dreyer says not a lot of his classmates knew how young he was and says he doesn’t really think his university experience would have been any different if he had been older.

“I obviously didn’t experience it the other way around but what would really change? I mean I don’t drink anyway so it’s not like being too young was awkward in that sense.”

Dreyer says he’s enrolled in a Master of Science program at SFU and plans to go for his PHD soon after.

He says he thinks being able to finish his education early should give him a leg up on getting into a career, but he says it’s possible there could be drawbacks.

“I sometimes wonder what employers or supervisors would make of it. So I’m not always certain if I should put it out there, ‘Hey I’m a little younger than most people’, or if I should just not mention it.”

Dreyer says once challenge he faced was not having as much time as other teens to save up time for school.
