babyA local group has raised enough money to buy five cuddle cot machines for local hospitals.

A cuddle cot is a mobile cooling system that allows children who have been victims of stillbirth or similar tragedies to remain in hospital rooms so that families can have a proper goodbye.

Annet Janssen says she started the fundraiser after experiencing a stillbirth and being surprised that the hospital didn’t have one.

“I was hospitalized due to an abominal infection and I wanted my little girl to stay with me and not to be taken down to the morgue. I mean you want to take in all of her features. You want to look at her, touch her, be with her. The machine gives the family more time to say goodbye. And also it gives family abroad or further away time to come visit and say goodbye.”

The five machines will be placed in Abbotsford Regional Hospital and other hospitals in the Fraser Valley.

You can still donate to help buy more machines at the group’s facebook page.
