LINC-2014.05Emma’s Acres, a program run by the Long-term Inmates Now in the Community society, is trying to raise money to improve irrigation and electricity supply at their farm

Project manager Glen Flett says the program uses convicted criminals who are on work passes or on parole to farm vegetables, which are then sold to farmers markets and restaurants.

Flett says the program gives convicts a chance to do some good and help people in the community who have been victimized.

“The profits from that go to supporting a victim’s group initiative that we’ve started which includes a bereavement group and an outreach worker who goes and tries to find out what they can do to get help (for the victims). We have some free counselling that we can provide them with.”
