emergency prepare weekThis week is national emergency preparedness week, with communities all over Canada holding events to teach people how to respond in a potential disaster.

Abbotsford fire chief Don Beer says Monday to Friday from 8:30 till one at City Hall is all about emergency kits.

“Anybody interested in understanding what’s required for an emergency kit can come get some information or can just purchase one right there.”

Beer says there are other events in Abbotsford all week, including a chamber of commerce breakfast Tuesday morning about preparing your business for when disaster strikes.

“We’ll be talking about business continuity and how to prepare your business to be able to get up and running after a disaster. And I’m not just talking about earthquakes, disaster can come in the form of a broken pipe flooding out you business, or a fire even.”

Contact the chamber for information about the breakfast and check out the city’s website for more emergency preparedness events.
