heritage park missionThe president of the Mission Heritage Association says he’s surprised and disappointed in the District’s decision to not renew the contract for upkeep of Heritage Park.

Brian Antonson says having a parks board type body would work for most of Mission, but says Heritage Park is unique.

“Parks and rec does a fine job of managing all the other parks but the Fraser River Heritage Park is a huge unit and it really deserves somebody looking after it on its own.”

Antonson says he also doesn’t get why council would suspend fundraising on the observatory project.

“The observatory is a completely separate project, it’s our project, there’s no reason – and I’ve asked mayor and council to tell us under what statutory authority they’re saying to suspend the fundraising. I don’t understand that.”

Antonson says his group has looked after the park for 30 years and saved it from development in the 1980’s.
