summer gamesRetired Abbotsford school district assistant superintendent Steve Carlton has been appointed president of the board for the 2016 BC Summer Games, happening in Abbotsford next July.

Carlton says the biggest challenge going forward will be to get resources in place.

“We get funding from our government, the BC Games society provides funding, the City kicks in a bit of money, but the balance comes from our community where we will be asking key sponsors to come on board to help us offset some of the costs.”

Carlton says another challenge is to build up a volunteer base, saying he thinks they will need about 3000 people to ensure everything goes smoothly.

He says they have a talented board and his role will be to make sure everyone has the support they need to get the job done.
