bigfire(Submitted by Asst Fire Chief Jim MacDonald)  At approximately 8:20 am on Monday April 6, 2015 the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported barn fire located in the 6900 block of Chadsey Road. Firefighters responded from Halls 1, 3, 4 and 6. When crews arrived they saw heavy smoke and fire coming from a 10 x 120 metre barn.

The interior of the barn was difficult to access and firefighting activities were restricted to the exterior of the structure. The barn was attached to a large utility building which fire crews were able to save. The barn was completely destroyed and although the bulk of the fire was under control by 1:00 pm crews remained on scene until 4:30 pm extinguishing hot spots.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The barn housed a medicinal marijuana grow operation. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Fire Department officials.
